The Australian Government has embarked on the most far-reaching changes to the nation’s system of health care since the introduction of Medicare more than 40 years ago.
e-health is a key element in the Government’s broad health reform agenda. It will bring revolutionary improvements in health care for all Australians. Over time it will touch and transform every aspect of health care, bringing benefits to consumers and clinicians alike, and offering exciting new opportunities for industry. e-health’s effectiveness will be increased by the roll-out of the National Broadband Network.
The Government has committed $466.7 million to ensure that all Australians who choose to do so will be able to register for a personally controlled electronic health record (PCEHR) from July 2012. Legislation has put in place the safeguards that will protect patient privacy, and established the service that will allocate unique identifier numbers to consumers and their health providers.
The e-health Conference: Revolutionising Australia’s Health Care is an opportunity for all those with an interest in the field to discuss and debate the evolution of e-health.
